Large Capacity

Large-capacity trashcans are key if you’re in a particularly high-traffic area, as the alternative is that people will just discard their trash on the floor, which will not be good for your business. They come in a wide array of varieties. If you want to use a small trashcan out the front that you constantly empty into a larger one out the back, invest in a utilitarian, aptly-named Brute trashcan. This isn’t much to look at, which is why it’ll be in the back, but it is cheap and does the job. On the other end of the spectrum is the United Receptacle, an aluminum trashcan that holds a huge amount of trash and looks pretty to boot. Of course, this comes at a cost - $600.

Green

“Green” is the wave of the future. Almost everything comes in a sustainable variety now, and trash cans are no exception. These aren’t profoundly different from standard trash cans, but they reduce your waste in substantial ways. The best example of this is the Basket trashcan, which is exactly like a regular trashcan except it has loops on the sides. This means that you can use your old grocery bags instead of standard garbage bags, which saves both money and carbon emissions. This shows that if you want to commit yourself to the environment, you don’t need to make any big, expensive changes.

Collapsible

Collapsible trash cans are inexpensive and convenient. They are great for any situation when you’re not near a public trash can – think camping, sports events, picnics, and the like. They all come with a handy carry bag and can carry over 100 lbs of trash.

Some of these come with your favourite sports team embossed on the side, which is excellent for Superbowl Sunday or other sports events. Now you have somewhere to put all your excess trash from beer cans and the like while simultaneously supporting your team. It also saves on the post-game cleanup.

Infrared

Infrared trash cans are ideal for a doctor’s office. Their main selling point is that you don’t have to touch any part of the trash can – you just hover your hand a few inches over the lid and it opens automatically. When dealing with needles, band-aids, and the like, you want to be as far from the disease they potentially carry as possible, so an infra-red trashcan is the way to go.

Also, these are good for the home of someone on the neurotic side, the type of person who doesn’t like to be anywhere near his/her trash.

Ashtrays

Ashtrays are of vital importance if you run a business. Even if you’re not a smoker, you are going to have customers who are and if they have nowhere to put their cigarette butts they will not hesitate to leave them on the floor. Ashtrays come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and prices, with the most expensive costing in the hundreds of dollars. The cheaper ones, however, do the job just as well. It all depends on what kind of overall look you want and how welcoming you want to be to smokers.
